New BBC Legal Drama and ITV Detective Series Debut This - legal drama
Seven new shows across major UK and streaming platforms debut this week.

The BBC has launched a legal drama spun off from The Split, while ITV is betting on a new detective series that some are calling a potential rival to Shetland. Seven shows across major UK and streaming platforms debut this week, spanning crime, comedy, and period mystery.

The Split Spin-Off Arrives on BBC

The Split Up introduces the Kishan family, a legal dynasty led by father-daughter pair Dhruv (Sanjeev Bhaskar) and Aria (Ritu Arya). Their legacy faces scrutiny after a family secret surfaces. Writer Abi Morgan, behind the original series, serves as executive producer. The show premieres on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 9pm on Sunday, September 20.

While the Defoes law firm does not return, the new series stays within the same fictional universe. The focus shifts to corporate and domestic legal battles, maintaining the tone of moral ambiguity that defined its predecessor.

ITV’s Dark New Detective Drama

The Blame follows DI Emma Crane (Michelle Keegan) and DI Tom Radley (Douglas Booth) as they investigate the death of a teenage figure skater in the town of Wakestead. Based on Charlotte Langley’s 2023 novel, the series explores lies and cover-ups. Produced by Nicola Shindler, it airs on ITV1 and ITVX at 9pm on Sunday, September 20.

Michelle Keegan plays DI Emma Crane in the ITV drama, which draws comparisons to Shetland for its moody atmosphere and small-town secrets. The series leans into darker themes than typical procedural fare.

Sharon Horgan Returns with HBO Max Series

Youth stars Sharon Horgan as a 50-year-old divorcée dealing with love, parenting, and elderly care. The series blends comedy and drama, exploring midlife reinvention. It premieres on HBO Max on Monday, September 21.

Bake Off Gets a New Judge

The Great British Bake Off returns with Nigella Lawson joining Paul Hollywood as a judge. Presenters Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding return for the new season. The show airs on Channel 4 at 8pm on Tuesday, September 22.
